5 Tips to Conquer Beauty When the Winter Doldrums Hit

Generally at this time of year I notice the impact of the cold, dry days.  My mood is a little lower, I move more slowly, and my skin feels dry. This year, I am trying to be a little more proactive with my self-care to offset the FULL impact of the season and so far it seems to be working! Use the winter doldrums to conquer your beauty routine.

If you notice that you kind of feel the blah’s this time of year, here are a few tips that have helped me.

TIP ONE

Try something new.  Turn doldrum and boredom into an opportunity for adventure. Try a new activity, have a new experience, or put a new twist on an old routine.  Novelty and challenge support sharpe brain function. Dive into a topic you have always wanted to research. Reupholster those chairs. Paint those walls a new color.  Color makes it easy to add beauty, interest and energy to your home.

TIP TWO

Take longer baths.  I mean, why not. If you are inside with a little extra time on your hands, a warm bath can warm the heart.  Add a little sunflower oil and an essential oil to help hydrate your skin. If you secretly embrace winter, plunge into a cold shower after your warm bath.  Cold water stimulates the flow of blood and lymph. The skin becomes nourished and your immune system gets a boost.

TIP THREE

Drink more tea.  There IS something about a warm beverage that heats you from the inside out.  I love love love my coffee but I am also learning to enjoy tea. I recently bought a fantastic mug and teapot made by Creative Co-op (one of my many findings from Healthy Living Market.  It is so pretty that it is easy to crave more tea time just because I look forward to using it. Frosting on the cake, I am using tea time to the benefit of my health by focusing on Vitamin C rich teas to keep my immune system happy.  I am loving Tazo Wild Sweet Orange Herbal Tea and Traditional Medicinals Tea with Rose Hips Hibiscus.

TIP FOUR

Every season, yes even this dark cold one, has a purpose.  Embrace the feeling of wanting to go dormant and use it to move you in the direction you want to head once the sun starts shining.  I have had a hard time with this lesson, if I am being honest. I have been guilty of expecting myself to ALWAYS be moving at the same pace - fast.  This year I am experimenting with allowing myself to alter the pace as it feels right. In doing so I have found the time to do some home nesting projects that have enhanced my feeling of organization.  This in return has energized me! Check out my closet project!

TIP FIVE

Spend some time reflecting.   One of the best things about being a human is that we are constantly changing.  Take this time to embrace and reflect on the many ways you have changed. Remember you are a part of nature.  The changing way of nature is beautiful and also unpredictable. Even from the comfort of the inside, you can see purity and truth in your beauty when you see yourself as part nature.  Alignment with beauty will shift the energy of the universe.
